How We Transformed a Damp Bathroom into a Stylish Airbnb Space in Dunster
Holiday rental properties need bathrooms that are both attractive and extremely durable. When Julia Harper contacted Shorebreak Property Services Limited about renovating the bathroom in her Dunster Airbnb, the existing space was far from ideal.
The room suffered from damp, outdated fixtures and inconvenient plumbing. Because the property sits in a historic stone building built into a hillside, moisture management was a major concern.
Starting from Scratch
The renovation began with a full strip-out back to bare walls. Removing everything allowed us to identify and resolve the underlying issues — including leaking pipes that were contributing to the damp.
To protect the room long-term, we applied a double damp proof membrane (DPM) to the floor and 250mm up the walls before rebuilding the space.
Smart Planning for a Smooth Project
Coordinating trades is essential in renovation projects. For this bathroom we carefully scheduled plastering, decorating, tiling and installation to keep everything moving efficiently.
Because the road outside the property is narrow, we also had to carefully manage deliveries and parking for materials.

Since the property is used as an Airbnb, durability and ease of maintenance were key design priorities.

A striking 800mm green Linares sink
A contemporary illuminated mirror
The finished bathroom is practical, attractive, and ready to handle the demands of regular guest use.
